The high school football season is scheduled to start on time in Utah. But that doesn’t mean COVID-19 hasn’t affected any teams.
A staff member for Herriman High’s football team tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Jordan School District announced Monday. It’s the first documented case of COVID-19 in Utah high school athletics in the state.
Dr. Dagmar Vitek, medical officer for the Salt Lake County Health Department, said those associated with the team will undergo a quarantine.
“After investigating the circumstances, we have determined that it is necessary to quarantine all practice/conditioning staff and participants through July 7, 2020,” Vitek said in a statement.
Herriman is scheduled to host Davis on Aug. 13 to open the season.
