Breathe easy; Thursday’s fog not pollution-related

Thursday morning’s air may have looked ominous, but the pea soup that settled along the Wasatch Front wasn’t pollution — just an innocent fog, according to the National Weather Service.

“We’re having these series of storm systems coming through. The air mass in those systems is quite moist,” said Monica Traphagen, NWS meteorologist. “We were just saturated along the Wasatch Front, and that caused foggy conditions to develop.”

The storm systems also should help keep Utah’s air clean for the next week.

“We’re not looking for inversion conditions to set up any time at least in the next seven days,” Traphagen said.
